Putting Things in Perspective

The kids who come to our homes from all types of backgrounds. In one of our homes, the siblings who recently moved in were asked to do chores for the first time.

They had never been asked to do chores before and began to learn why chores are important. The house parents explained to the kids that chores are important for many reasons. For example, chores are important because you can help your family out when you go home, or you can use these skills to get a job later in life. They also explained that chores help you learn how to take care of a house so you can be responsible for yourself and become independent.

Something as simple as chores has an incredible opportunity to teach kids the power of responsibility and independence.
