Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January 10, 2019

When you think about where human trafficking is most prevalent, what locations comes to mind? For most people, big cities, low-income countries, and red light districts are the places they associate with human trafficking. Unfortunately, human trafficking exists everywhere, even here in the Upstate.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

Human traffickers typically prey on the most vulnerable, such as individuals who are isolated and have a history of abuse. Unfortunately, many foster children fit this description as they have experienced sexual, physical, and/or mental abuse prior to entering the system and are therefore more likely to be exploited again.  This is one of the many reasons Calvary Home strives to keep children connected with staff and positive mentors from the community, even after they have left our care and returned home.  Our desire is for every child who passes through our doors to forever feel safe and secure, and to have a positive social network surrounding them, so that they do not fall through the cracks.
