Meet our Kids

Sneak Peak with Laura Lindsley

March 29, 2019

The Next Chapter Event, hosted by Calvary Home, will be held on April 11th, 2019 at The Oaks in Anderson, SC. Dinner begins at 6:30 pm. The following transcript in a sneak peak interview with Community Development Director Laura Lindsley into the upcoming event.

The theme of this year's event is "The Next Chapter." Why did you choose this as the theme?

The Next Chapter is a very fitting metaphor for the lives of the children who come to Calvary Home. A child's time at Calvary Home can serve as the turning of a new leaf in the story of his or her life. Our goal is for every child to leave Calvary Home with the resources, skills, and family habits they need to fulfill their God-given potential in the next chapters of their life.

What should I expect for the evening?

Upon arrival, we will have volunteers checking in guests, and registering those who did not register in advance on the website. Before dinner, there will be time for mingling and exploring the "art gallery" of stories around the room. At 6:30 pm, guests will be encouraged to help themselves to the buffet food line. The program will begin shortly after 7:00. We are very excited about our guests speakers, Briana & Jake Wilson, who will be sharing their foster and adoption journey. At the end of the event, guests will be given the opportunity to partner with the ministry financially. Calvary Home Staff and Board Members will be available after the event for more individualized questions.

Speaking of the buffet, what is the menu for the evening?

We are excited to partner with Holmes Catering again this year. The menu includes: beef medallions, chicken skewers, green beans, spinach artichoke dip, and last but not least, my favorite, the gourmet macaroni and cheese bar! There will be an assortment of desserts, but the highlight of the desserts is the ice cream generously donated by Figs Cafe & Farmacy, in downtown Anderson. We will be serving two flavors: butter-pecan, and cookies and cream, so pick your favorite!

How should I dress for the evening?

Business casual.

Do I need to purchase a ticket for the event?

No, this not a ticketed event. However, we would appreciate it if people register ahead of time by clicking here. This helps us know how to gauge seats and dinner plates.

If I don't register beforehand, can I still come to the event?

Absolutely!

What impact do you hope this event will have on foster care in the Upstate?

There are two main impacts I hope this event has. First would be education. I hope our event helps educate the community on the needs of vulnerable children in desperate places, and how they can help these children find stability and normalcy through help, home, and hope. This could come in a variety of ways; becoming foster parents themselves, becoming respite foster parents, coming alongside local foster families, tutoring children at school, the opportunities are truly endless. No one person can do everything, but every person can do something.

Second, this event is Calvary Home's largest fundraiser of the year. The money raised at this event helps Calvary Home to meet our operational needs for the rest of 2019. Just to give a little perspective on the amount of money it takes to operate Calvary Home, it costs $14,000 per child, per year. On any given day, Calvary Home cares for on average 20 children, ranging in age from 7-18. So I hope this event raises the money needed to continue serving foster children for the coming year.

If I cannot make it to the event, but still want to donate, what would be the best way to do that?

There are three major ways you can give. First, you can give securely online by clicking here.   This can be set up as a one time gift, or as a monthly re-occurring gift. Second, you can mail a check to Calvary Home. Or third, you can drop by the office Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 5 pm. We love meeting those who support the ministry. Our address is 110 Calvary Home Circle, Anderson, SC 29621. Just make sure to put "Next Chapter Event" in the memo.

Thanks Laura!
