Your Gift Has a Direct Impact
In August, we sent 28 children back to school! We are always so excited for them to continue to make friends, further their education, and grow as individuals in the classroom. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to provide back packs, school supplies, and new shoes for all our students... but that's not all your gifts provided.
In addition to shoes, pencils, and backpacks, we called for clothing donations for siblings that came into care just before the school year.
Many of our students are used to being the kid that doesn’t have what they need when school starts. Whether they were walking into school with last years’ shoes or asking to borrow a pencil from a classmate… they are used to missing out. This year may be the first time that it's different for them.
As the Executive Director, I get a front row seat to the difference that a gift can make in a child's life - yes, even a gift as simple as leggings.
Just days before school started back at TL Hanna, a student named Aria came to live on campus with her sister. We reached out to a few of our local donors and they quickly got to work shopping for her.
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
Within hours, we had bags of new clothes for her to try on. It wouldn't be the first time that we hosted a fashion show in the office for a new child on campus, and I pray that it won't be the last because it is such a treasured time in our office.
Aria tried on her new leggings – marveling that they were her actual size – and her new shirt, and finally pulled on the new Nike sneakers that a donor brought.
When she stepped into my office, the smile on her face was enormous. Her sister squealed with delight, our staff cheered
and Aria basked in the celebration and exclaimed "I feel so FANCY!"
Aria wasn't handed used clothes that were unwanted by someone else. She was handed new clothes, picked especially for her. Because of our community's generosity, we were able to greet her season on campus with a sense of worthiness.
These moments are cherished both by our staff and our foster children. We pray that the children here at Calvary Home feel gratitude for those who have blessed them and find self confidence enough to know they are worthy of generous gifts. We know this, because God tells us in Matthew 7:11 that He loves to give good gifts to his children.
Thank you for giving in ways that make a visible impact on our children. Your generosity goes so much further than you might ever be able to see.
