Back to School Prayers
Later this week, we'll be sending 28 children back to school! We are so excited for them to continue to make friends, further their education, and grow as individuals in the classroom. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to provide back packs, school supplies, and new shoes for all our students!
A new school year, even when prepared with a new backpack full of supplies, can feel overwhelming for many of our students. Please join us in prayer as we enter another school year:
Pray that our students find peace in new places. Many of our students will be starting at a new school this week as they came into care over the Summer. Discussing why you had to change schools can be an uncomfortable topic to navigate as a child in foster care. So please cover our children in prayers for peace and comfort knowing that they are welcome in new places.
Pray that our students feel safe enough to respect authority willingly. Many of our students have anxiety about meeting new people and acclimating to new authority figures - mainly due to their own traumatic life experiences. Defiance in the classroom can be a difficult cycle to unlearn and can often be a red flag for teachers. Please pray that our teachers find understanding that our students are not difficult children, but have difficult pasts. Pray that our students feel safe enough to accept direction from strangers early in the school year.
Pray that our students find gratitude and confidence. Many of our students are used to being the kid that doesn’t have what they need when school starts. Whether they were walking into school with last years’ shoes or asking to borrow a pencil from a classmate… they are used to missing out. This year will be different for them and we pray that they feel gratitude for those who have blessed them and find self confidence enough to know they are worthy of generous gifts.
Pray that our students find confidence in the classroom. Many of our students fall behind on basic grade level math and reading. While we offer on-site tutoring to help them close the educational gap, we know it can be challenging to feel behind in the classroom. We’re praying that our children don’t find discouragement in their classrooms but instead feel inspired to grow beyond where they started.
Lastly, pray for all our educators. It can be difficult for teachers to navigate the emotional and educational needs of every student in their classroom. We know there is a lot of pressure on educators so we’re praying that they feel appreciation from the students and families as well as the peace to navigate each situation with care and compassion.
