Sharing Makes a Big Impact

Angelica and Dahlia went on a visit last week to spend some time with their parents. These visits are typically court-ordered and are supervised by the Department of Social Services. Sometimes, these visits can be confusing for the parents, but also very confusing for the children. It’s not uncommon that they end up in tears and promises to see each other soon. At this most recent visit, Angelica and Dahlia’s mom gave them a package of fruit snacks and several boxes of unicorn-shaped boxed mac and cheese. She told the girls when she was out shopping that the unicorn pasta reminded her of her special unicorn-loving girls.

After the visit, the girls were very sad and already missed their mom, but the girls were also excited to get back to their foster home at Calvary Home to show everyone the special mac and cheese they got as a gift. That evening, foster mom, Amanda, showed the girls how to make the simple boxed mac and cheese and served it along with their dinner. The girls were insistent that they share their special unicorn pasta with the whole family. They even opened the fruit snacks and put one little gummy on each plate so everyone could enjoy them.

While sitting at the table, Dahlia looked up and said, “My mommy would think this is so nice. You guys shared with me and now we can share with you.”

It’s amazing how a gift that we could easily take for granted can bring such a special moment for our children.
