Some of the best gifts can’t be wrapped this Christmas.
As the year draws to a close, many of us can feel the weight of not knowing what lies ahead. But for children in foster care, that feeling isn’t just occasional, it’s often part of everyday life. These vulnerable children don’t always know where they’ll sleep at night, if they will have a hot meal for dinner, or if mommy or daddy will come home angry again.
This was James’ story.
At just eight years old, James watched his world fall apart when he and his two sisters entered foster care this past summer. Overnight, James lost not only his parents, his home, and his school, but also the solace in knowing his baby sisters were close in the next room. He had always known he could watch over them and keep them safe as long as they were together. However, now he was alone in foster care while his sisters were several counties away in a different foster home.
Then came Amanda — a foster mom with a heart full of faith and determination. Amanda moved into one of Calvary’s new homes to be a part of the foster family neighbor and join the community of Christ-centered families who are caring for vulnerable children from across South Carolina.
Once he was settled, Amanda began making phone calls, praying and advocating to bring all the siblings back together. And by God’s grace, within just a few weeks, Destiny and June joined their brother on campus.
When the children ran into each other’s arms that day, hugging tightly, crying, and laughing all at once, the fear that had filled their hearts began to fade.
Caring for three foster children (plus her adopted daughter and two other foster children) might sound impossible for a single mom. But Amanda isn’t doing it alone. She’s surrounded by a loving, Christ-centered community at Calvary Home that provides strength, stability, and practical support every day. When Amanda’s days get long, her neighbors step in to help with school pickup. Our staff keeps her pantry stocked and her heart encouraged. Because of your support, Amanda can give her children not only safety and care, but also the peace that comes from knowing they’re loved and supported.
Today, James and his sisters no longer wonder where they are sleeping. Their biggest concern now is whether
Santa will find them on Christmas morning, and we can promise you, thanks to generous hearts like yours, he will.
Your gift this Christmas makes stories like theirs possible.
Your generosity provides more than warm beds and full plates. It builds a community of belonging, grounded in the love of Christ. It allows children to trade fear for peace, loneliness for family, and hopelessness for joy.
Exodus 14:14 reminds us, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Here at Calvary Home, we strive to show every child the truth that they not only have people fighting for them, but also a Heavenly Father who never stops fighting on their behalf.
When you give, you’re not just meeting physical needs. You’re investing in hearts. You’re helping children discover the love of God, the power of hope, and the beauty of family. Will you prayerfully consider making a sacrificial gift on behalf of a child in need? Your partnership in our mission to provide Help, Hope, and Home is an act of worship with eternal value.
