Six Months at Calvary

Bre just celebrated her six month anniversary here at Calvary Home and we’re so thankful to have her!

I’ve officially hit my 6-month mark at Calvary Home, so I’ve been reflecting on the moments that

led me here. Before becoming a team member at Calvary Home, I worked for the SC

Department of Social Services as a case manager, and my job focus was adoption work. It was

taxing, physically and mentally, but there were moments where I saw the growth and union of

new families. Despite all they had been through, I saw kids and teens overcome heartache and

trauma. One case that comes to mind was a sweet little boy. He was the first case I had ever

received, and he had been through some unimaginable things. I remember meeting his foster

parents and thinking they were such a joy to be around. Over the two years that I had his case, I

saw how much they loved and advocated for him. He grew so much in those two years, and

after a long process, this sweet family had the pleasure of adopting him! I also had the

opportunity of being a part of their little girl’s adoption, who was the first adoption in my

caseload.

Though there were great moments during my time with DSS, I felt like I needed to be

somewhere else, but I didn’t know where. I prayed and searched, but all I got were “no’s” or no

replies at all. I began to feel defeated, until one day I learned about a potential job opening at

Calvary Home, and a few days later I received a call from our amazing Laura asking if I was

interested. I’m not going to lie, when I heard what the job opening was for, I was a little hesitant.

I wouldn’t be working directly with the kids or families, which is what I was used to. I would be

stepping out of my comfort zone BIG TIME! I honestly can’t tell you why I decided to move

forward. All I can say was that I felt called to say ‘yes,’ and wow am I happy I did. It’s been such

a blessing to see all the amazing ways God works on and provides for this campus.

I’ve seen God’s providence firsthand through Calvary Home. He shows me regularly that I’m

where I need to be. Just last month, that joyful and loving family moved into one of the homes

on campus to continue their fostering journey and provide a home to more children in need.

November marked my 6 months of being at Calvary Home, but it also marked the one year

adoption anniversary of that sweet little boy, who isn’t so little anymore! I feel so thankful to be a

part of such an incredible community and team, and I look forward to seeing what next year has

in store for Calvary Home.
